Demi Lovato First Listen: Skyscraper

Initially, I wasn’t going to write about this.  I like Demi Lovato and was really excited for her single, Skyscraper, to drop today but I’m highly disappointed. After reading a few other blog sites to see if anyone agreed with me (which they didn’t) I decided to voice my opinion.

The song is pretty.  That’s about where it ends though.  The song definitely has meaning, HOWEVER, just because a song has meaning doesn’t mean it’s good (again only an opinion).

Demi Lovato has been through a lot this past year or so.  She’s admitted to having a few different disorders, was scrutinized in the press for striking one of her backup dancers, been to rehab and back and she’s definitely risen against the odds.  But again, that doesn’t make her song good.  The song is, “okay.”

It’s very slow, there isn’t really too much of a pick up and the lyrics are kind of bland and cliche.  It’s been done.  I’m actually very surprised that her label allowed her to release a slow jam as her first single because very few artists have luck with ballads as their initial singles (aside from Enrique Iglesias).

I have a lot of respect for Demi Lovato, but speaking from a commercial point of view…this is not her best work.  What do ya’ll out there in Wilton Manors think?
