Initially, I wasn’t going to write about this. Â I like Demi Lovato and was really excited for her single, Skyscraper, to drop today but I’m highly disappointed. After reading a few other blog sites to see if anyone agreed with me (which they didn’t) I decided to voice my opinion.
The song is pretty. Â That’s about where it ends though. Â The song definitely has meaning, HOWEVER, just because a song has meaning doesn’t mean it’s good (again only an opinion).
Demi Lovato has been through a lot this past year or so. Â She’s admitted to having a few different disorders, was scrutinized in the press for striking one of her backup dancers, been to rehab and back and she’s definitely risen against the odds. Â But again, that doesn’t make her song good. Â The song is, “okay.”
It’s very slow, there isn’t really too much of a pick up and the lyrics are kind of bland and cliche. Â It’s been done. Â I’m actually very surprised that her label allowed her to release a slow jam as her first single because very few artists have luck with ballads as their initial singles (aside from Enrique Iglesias).
I have a lot of respect for Demi Lovato, but speaking from a commercial point of view…this is not her best work. Â What do ya’ll out there in Wilton Manors think?
I love it. She sounds beautiful, and the song is inspirational and catchy.
