Hey, remember back in the day when Coca Cola had cocaine in it? Â Yea, it still kind of does.
The desired flavor of the softdrink cannot be achieved without the use of coca leaves. Â Cocaine is a byproduct of coca leaves. Â Now, in 1903 the cocaine byproduct was eliminated from the Coca Cola recipe but to this day coca leaves are still used.
The United States actually prohibits the sale and trade of coca leaves which leaves many wondering how Coca Cola is getting away with this. Â The company actually has a special arrangement with the Drug Enforcement Administration allowing them to import dried coca leaves from Peru in HUGE quantities.
To this day, the Coca Cola recipe remains a tightly guarded mystery but at least we know that it has coca leaves in it.
