OK. Whether you are a tourist or a local you really owe it to yourself to visit The Depot Cabana Bar and Grill on Federal Highway in Oakland Park. Honestly, this place has been around for awhile and it’s one of those old Floridian dive hotels with a pool and a bar. To be honest with you, I’m not sure the hotel rooms are part of the complex. If they are, then think The Parliament House in Orlando. If not, then just think of it as a fun down to earth bar with great drink specials, awesome Karaoke singers and a Sunday Tea Dance with a pool.
Your welcome to come and spend the day relaxing poolside while being served cocktails and food. Enjoy the best that South Florida has to offer! The inside offers something unique to South Florida, a high ceilings chalet type atmosphere and great views of the pool. With 13 HDTVs, Pool Table, Dart Board and more you can watch your favorite show or sporting event or challenge your friends to a game of pool and darts!
We were there late on a Sunday (7 pm) so the tea dance was long over but the bar was full of fun people. Don’t expect twink type posers but be prepared for a lot of genuine real people who want to show you a good time. Our server was hysterical and as we rang up a pretty mighty tab with drinks, they kept sending over shots of Jagermeister, something we ordered once but they kept them coming complimentary. Smart move on their part because the more we drank, the more we ordered and the more we tipped.
I usually hate Karaoke but found their local talent so good that I ended up singing along and came the closest I’ve ever gotten to doing Karaoke on my own.
I’d be interested in checking out the Sunday Tea Dance. My guess is that it’s more a bear or regular type crowd. While it may not be South Beach fabulous, you’ll be sure to have an awesome time without the attitude.
After several drinks, we knew we needed some food in our stomachs and ordered some appetizer combo which was basically fries, onion rings, and chicken wings. Typical fried bar food which hit the spot and absorbed the alcohol.
The food menu here is provided by Shawn & Nick’s Courtyard Cafe  which is a popular diner on Wilton Drive but also offers a full menu for Lunch or Dinner at The Depot and always with great daily specials.
If you’re a local we recommend you give it a try. If you’re a tourist, spend a few hours there on Sunday and have a good time. No pretense, just good people, good services, and good fun.
